Could you be the next guardian in their story?
Service dogs retire for many reasons -- age, injury, temperament changes, or simply because their time has come. Whatever the reason, they have given years of loyalty, courage, and unwavering service. They deserve a retirement filled with comfort, love, and security.
Hero Paws works to ensure that every retired service dog finds the right home -- a place where they can finally relax, be loved, and live out their days in peace. But finding the right match takes time, care, and expertise.
Rehoming a retired service dog is not like rehoming a pet. These dogs have unique histories, specific needs, and behaviours shaped by years of training and operational work. We take placement seriously.
Every dog is assessed by experienced behaviourists and trainers who understand the complexities of the transition from service to civilian life. We look at the dog's temperament, health needs, energy levels, and history to find a home that truly fits.
When a dog leaves our care, our commitment to them continues. We provide ongoing support to adoptive families, ensuring that both the dog and the humans adjusting to this new chapter have everything they need.
Medical care, behavioural advice, emergency support -- we are always just a phone call away. Until a dog is fully settled and rehomed, Hero Paws covers veterinary costs and provides hands-on support to make the transition as smooth as possible.
We want to make the process as straightforward and supportive as possible. Here is what to expect.
